Completed during the last Christmas break, Kambala’s Green Room and Agile Classroom Project has set the benchmark for educational architecture in New South Wales according to the 2016 NSW Master Builders Association Excellence in Construction Awards. The builders, Structus, won the award in the highly competitive category of Private Schools up to $1M.
Focused on academic excellence and the importance of student learning, the agile classroom serves as a collaborative learning environment which can be used for group work and/or flexible teaching. These areas were of high importance to Kambala to demonstrate to the entire School community a new direction for education spaces at the School. Three Kambala Old Girls, architects Antoinette Trimble, Hannah Tribe and Camilla Block worked with the Kambala community to bring the new look to life. Antoinette Trimble of Veldhoen + Company consulted with all user groups before the final designs were resolved. Hannah Tribe at Tribe Studio created a design for the agile classroom that converted three old classrooms into one new bright, collaborative learning environment. Camilla Block of Durbach Block Jaggers created a stunning staff room design which turned a very old common room into a modern light-filled space.
The agile classroom has been a great success. The girls congregate in it before and after school. Similarly, the new staff common room (The Green Room) has been used extensively and includes two meeting spaces for smaller staff meetings. |
