Kambala Old Girl Josephine (Brazil) Linden ’69 is the Founder and CEO of Linden Global Strategies based in New York and offers The Linden Fellowship to Old Girls of Kambala. The most recent Linden Fellow, Carolyn Harris ’10, discusses her experience: “The Linden Fellowship is a rewarding and challenging opportunity offered to Kambala Old Girls – an opportunity to gain invaluable experience working in the financial sector, learn from an industry leader, and live in New York City. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to complete a Fellowship with Josephine Linden and her team (beginning July 2017). Josephine’s passion for the work she does is contagious. I completed the Fellowship in between my last two semesters of a combined Bachelor of Economics (Honours) and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney and feel inspired to now pursue a career in the financial sector. At the time of applying for the Fellowship, I was curious to learn more about wealth management and financial decision making and was excited by the opportunity to work with Josephine herself, given her impressive career. Every day with Josephine was different and the opportunities to learn were endless –meeting clients, attending fund manager meetings and contributing to internal team planning sessions. As a Fellow, I had the ability to shape my experience to suit my personal interests and spend time with Josephine and all her team. Throughout my Fellowship, each member of the Linden Global Strategies (LGS) team took time to facilitate my learning and answer my many questions! I was not only blown away by the work Josephine and her team did, but by the way in which the team worked together under Josephine’s leadership. It is due to Josephine’s commitment to excellence, her generosity and her passion for the work she does that being a Fellow at LGS is such a rewarding experience. In addition, living in NYC is a wonderful adventure. I was able to explore the many museums and art galleries, get lost in the different boroughs, test out cafes and restaurants and visit the city’s most iconic attractions. Overall, the Linden Fellowship was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am incredibly thankful to Josephine for opening my eyes to the financial world and equipping me with invaluable skills to begin my career. I wish all future Fellows the best of luck in NYC and encourage Old Girls to make the most of this unique opportunity.” Sarah Swan ’09 and Nicola Borton ’11 have been announced as the next recipients of the Linden Fellowship. Sarah is currently a practicing solicitor in New South Wales, having recently been admitted to both the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales. "I applied for the Linden Fellowship because learning about the world of finance, while living in one of the centres of global finance, from a female mentor who holds a wealth of knowledge and experience, is something that I simply could not refuse. I was also drawn to this opportunity due to the calibre of Kambala girls who have already undertaken the Fellowship. I am so humbled to be considered among such an incredible group women and I am delighted to start this adventure. I am extremely grateful to the network of Kambala Old Girls, and in particular, Josephine Linden, for creating such a unique opportunity." Sarah will commence her fellowship in November 2017. Nicola Borton has just completed her final semester of a BA/LLB at the University of Sydney. “I applied for the Linden Fellowship because it seemed like a truly unique opportunity to gain insight into the exciting financial markets and commercial world of New York City within a supportive environment focused on my personal development and learning. I also spoke with a few past Linden Fellows, who all attested to how the experience broadened their interests and ultimately shaped their future careers. It is such a privilege to be able to pursue my interests in finance under the mentorship of a woman like Josephine, and I feel incredibly grateful to the Kambala community for affording me this opportunity.” Nicola will undertake the Linden Fellowship in 2018 before commencing at Allens Linklaters as a law graduate in 2019. |
